Joint Decision Making
As part of the NHS, we have a duty to ensure that patients are fully involved in their own care. The Government has been campaigning for 'no decision about me, without me' and here at York Teaching Hospital, we fully support joint or shared decision making.
To achieve joint decision making it is our duty as clinicians to provide you with understandable and accurate clinical information. We will discuss options that are available to you and explore what each options means for you. In return, we ask that you put forward your questions and any concerns.
Your surgeon and clinical team will make every effort to ensure joint decision making, please speak to them if you have any concerns about the decision making process. However, if you do not feel that joint decision making has been a part of your surgical journey you can always contact the York Hospital Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).
